“Conscience of a Hacker” essay

Computers nowadays is a way of helping you explore any curious thoughts. But can your thoughts define you as a criminal? In this story “The Conscience of a Hacker” by The Mentor, he explains how students life have improved just by using technology. Technology has also change the way that students think on something curious. The Mentor also shows us how his writing style is written in this story.
Technology have been improving students lifestyles. The Mentor says  “I found a computer. Wait a second this is cool. It does what I want it to do.” (paragraph 5). His quote is showing his reaction or experience when he had first used a computer. In paragraph 6 he says “a door opened to a world..rushing through the phone line like heroin through addict’s veins.” His words mean that when technology was  introduced  a lot of people found different ways to adapt to how they’re being used. Technology has been worldwide and is use almost all around the world. Students have improved in their learning ability by looking up more information that can help them understand any lesson or topic.
Students are very curious to learn about anything and to search something up they go on the internet or on computers. Teachers tend to not believe students because they think that they can cheat by searching up the answer. On the fourth paragraph it says “I understand it. "No, Ms. Smith, I didn’t show my work. I did it in my head..” Damn kid. Probably copied it. There’re all alike.” The author also says in paragraph 9 “We make use of a service already existing without paying for what could be dirt-cheap if it wasn’t run by profiteering gluttons, and you call us criminals. We explore...and you call us criminals.” His meaning of this quote is based off how anyone uses technology mostly ever day and teachers or anyone in particular can judge by what they’re searching, like adults can call it hacking when it’s basically not. As society changes kids learn more on how to run computers because of how fascinating it is to know or to find anything.
The Mentor shows us how his writing style defines his character personality. In his writing it shows what his tone is on how teachers or anyone thinks of someone’s personal traits. In paragraph 9 the Mentor says “This is our world now... the world of the electron and the switch, the beauty of the baud. We make use of a service already existing without paying for what could be dirt-cheap if it wasn’t run by profiteering gluttons, and you call us criminals. We explore ... and you call us criminals.” In this quote he’s expressing how anyone can be anything good or bad they’ll still be judge by someone else. He also shows in paragraph 11 that “I am a hacker, and this is my manifesto. You may stop this individual, but you can’t stop us all.. after all, we’re all alike.” In his tone you can tell that everyone is the same and that they can’t change who they are.
In conclusion to “The Conscience of a Hacker” technology has changed peoples thinking but can’t change who they are. People have become more intelligent learners because they have adapted to this new generation. Curiosity has improved the way how anyone is able to figure out what they’re thinking in any form. People’s tones are express based on the was they see something in their opinion.
